Surface Warranty Check
You check your Surface warranty on Microsoft’s own page: type the serial number and it shows when cover ends. Here is where to find the serial number, what the standard warranty and paid extensions cover, and what to do when it isn’t found.
How do I check my Surface warranty?
- Find the serial in the Surface app under Device information, in Settings > System > About, or on the device itself.
- Open Surface Support for Business, pick the country and type the serial. You don’t need to sign in.
- For a personal Surface, account.microsoft.com/devices shows the warranty once the device is registered there.
Where is the serial number?
On a Surface Laptop, under the keyboard near the hinge. On a Surface Pro or Go, under the kickstand. On the device: in the Surface app under Device information, or in Settings > System > About.
Can I extend the Surface warranty?
- Microsoft Complete for Business. Adds cover for accidental damage from handling, and extends cover for hardware faults. The extra fault cover starts when the standard warranty ends; accidental damage is covered from the day you buy.
What if the serial number isn't found, or the date looks wrong?
Wrong date on a personal Surface? At account.microsoft.com/devices open the device, choose Info & support, then “Update warranty details”, and upload the receipt (JPEG, PDF or PNG). Bank statements and marketplace statements aren’t accepted, and the update takes up to 24 hours.
Can I check several at once?
The Surface Management Portal shows covered and expiring devices, if you use Intune.
How long is the Surface warranty?
At least one year on business (commercial) Surface devices. For a personal Surface, the check page shows yours.
Do I need a business account to use Surface Support for Business?
No. You don’t need to sign in: pick the country and type the serial.

Keep the Surface warranty date with the device
Forward the receipt to AssetJay and it files the purchase date with the asset, plus the serial if the receipt lists one. If the receipt doesn't give a warranty length it assumes one year, and it emails you 30, 7 and 1 day before the warranty ends. Each asset page links to its maker's check, with a button to copy the serial.
